Scope and document review
CoreSpan Sourcing quote scope before factories reply
This page is a checklist for comparable quotations. CoreSpan Sourcing coordinates the questions. It does not size the primary frame, stamp drawings, or enroll a buyer in a third-party builder program. Bring the project engineer into any line that changes design live load, design dead load, or the foundation interface.

Each supplier should answer
- Quoted system name and plant
- Wind speed, exposure, snow, seismic
- What is inside the price
- What is excluded
- Documents attached to this system
- Delivery basis and destination
Shell package beside a wider scope
Read across a row. If one column is blank, the quotations are not on the same basis yet. Figures below are labels for the comparison, not prices and not measured savings.
| Line | Shell or kit | Turnkey-style scope |
|---|---|---|
| Primary frame | Rigid frame with built-up or hot-rolled members, clear span and eave height stated | Same frame data, plus anchor-bolt plan responsibility |
| Secondary framing | Purlin and girt spacing listed, or marked excluded | Purlin, girt, and flange bracing included with member marks |
| Enclosure | Panel profile named; insulation optional | Defined enclosure assembly, thermal transmittance and any required fire-resistance test evidence |
| Foundation | Buyer or local engineer | Still confirm. A building quote rarely includes the geotechnical report. |
| Erection and crane lift plan | Excluded unless a separate erection line is priced | Ask who provides the crane, the crew, and the lift plan |
| Freight and destination | Ex-works or a named incoterm, never mixed with an installed price | Delivered to the destination ZIP, with access limits written |
Steps the desk will actually run
Limits: the desk cannot declare IBC or IRC compliance without the authority having jurisdiction and the design criteria. HUD Code applies to a different regulatory path than a site-built steel building and is not assumed here. Transport permits, local erection licenses, and soil capacity are outside a factory frame quote unless a supplier writes them in.
Questions buyers raise while the quotes are open
Can two factories be compared if the snow load differs?
No comparison of price is useful until both sheets use the ground snow load, wind speed, and seismic design category from the same brief. If a factory assumed a lower snow value, that sheet is a different building.
Who checks the foundation interface?
The supplier can issue anchor-bolt reactions. The foundation design remains with the engineer of record for the site. The desk records which party accepted that split.
What if the buyer wants a budget number before loads exist?
An optional target budget, per building or whole project, can travel with the form. It is a planning note. It is not a factory quotation and it is not a verified supplier grade. Premium, mid-range, budget, or undecided is a preference flag with the same limit.
Where do standard and custom frames diverge?
A repeatable bay may shorten the question list when the published width, eave height, and loads fit the site. A custom clear span, a crane, or an unusual wind exposure category needs project-specific engineering. The desk does not choose which path is acceptable for the jurisdiction.
Review the inquiry cards and then submit the rows you already know.
Ask factories on one written scope
Attach the use, the loads you have, the quantity, and the destination. Leave unknown engineering values blank rather than guessing them into the sheet.
